Case IH introduces three models with continuously variable transmission to the Maxxum Efficient Power series and expands CVT range to 4-cylinder tractors / Cost-effective tractor for universal applications with powerful engine and comfortable cab

At SIMA 2013 in Paris, Case IH presents a leading innovation in the class of 110 to 140 hp tractors: Three new models with continuously variable transmission are introduced to the Maxxum EP series which was launched at the last Agritechnica. The Maxxum 110 CVX EP, Maxxum 120 CVX EP and Maxxum 130 CVX EP are true workhorses for all kinds of farm operations, equipped with powerful engines and comfortable cabs.

"These new models follow the trend towards continuously variable transmissions and extend our portfolio in the medium power class with 4-cylinder engines," says Vincent Hazenberg, Product-Manager for the Maxxum range at Case IH.

Efficient transmission technology

Maxxum CVX EP models feature proven CVX transmissions with double-clutch technology.

The transmission operates continuously variable between 0 and 50 kph and has two mechanical gears for an excellent overall efficiency.

The hydraulic power is evenly available over the full speed range of the tractor with less than 25% hydraulic power share. 50 kph Eco speed are reached at a low engine speed of 1750 rpm. (40 kph @ 1600 rpm)

The transmission is fitted with helical gears for smooth running at all speeds. Two forward gears, reverse and the shuttle gear are changed automatically using the double-clutch.

With their own clutch, changeover between odd and even gears happens seamless and smoothand .” As result, levels of comfort & efficiency are reached which are hardly achievable with any other approach. The clutches will only engage when both are rotating at the same speed – ideal for achieving an extended service life. Double-clutch technology ensures that losses are minimised which ensures maximum efficiency.”

Maxxum CVX EP tractors are also equipped with APM (Automatic Productivity Management), a feature which has already proven very effective in larger Case IH tractors. APM automatically reduces engine speed when less power is needed. Maxxum Efficient Power tractors also have an active stop control system. This holds the tractor safely in the stop position even on hills, whether or not a load is attached, without having to operate the clutch. Active stop control also makes it easier to drive on slippery surfaces and ensures less wear on brakes and clutch plates. This allows for an increased level of safety since there is no need to activate the parking brake.

Powered by modern engines

The new Maxxum CVX EP tractors are powered by rigid turbocharged engines with intercoolers. The four-cylinder engines have a capacity of 4.5 litres. All models have electronic common rail injection. The engines deliver a power boost with a ten percent power increase at the reduced engine speed of 1900 rpm. This results in a markedly lower fuel consumption. In addition, they are also fitted with a precision fuel injection system.

The new Maxxum CVX EP series is equipped with the Efficient Power System. All these engines feature an SCR system built by Case IH. They have been optimised for efficiency, and maximum torque is reached at an engine speed of just 1500 rpm. Furthermore, the Maxxum tractors feature an engine power management system that delivers up to 22 hp more.

The Maxxum 130 CVX EP for example has a maximum power of 143 hp which can be brought up to 163 hp in transport and PTO applications by means of the engine Power Management.

Idle speed management

The idle speed management system, too is an innovative development. A new software function has been developed which further reduces fuel consumption and operating costs. The engine automatically reduces idle speed from 850 to 650 rpm. This reduction takes effect 30 seconds after the driver has left the cab when no electronic remotes nor the hitch are being used.

Comfortable cab

The new Maxxum CVX EP range is equipped with a surround cab, offering one of the most comfortable tractor workplaces on the market. The cab is the largest in its class, with an exceptional view through windows which total 5.78 square metres. The four-pillar design and the integrated roof window provide unobstructed visibility, giving the driver a 105 degree forward view, ideal for front loader work. With just 71 decibels, the Maxxum CVX EP tractors also have the quietest cab on the market.

The new Maxxum CVX EP models benefit from the same proven control concept as larger Case IH tractors right up to 600 hp. Theergonomic design of the controls ensures extremely efficient operation: all key switches and buttons are integrated, like the Multicontroller, into the right-hand console. The same console can also house the AFS Pro 300 or the AFS Pro 700 touch-screen monitor, making the Maxxum CVX EP ideal for AFS precision farming applications.

Powerful hitch; more power for hydraulic applications

As true all-rounder, the Maxxum is equipped with a very flexible hydraulic system. An axial piston pump delivers high flow rates of up to 125 litres per minute on-demand, including pressure and flow regulation. The rear hitch is capable of lifting 7867 kg, while the front hitch lifts 3100 kg. Up to seven electro-hydraulic remote valves allow a wide range of hydraulic functions to be controlled Up to four remote hydraulic connections in the back and three mid-mount connections can be specified.

New: more efficient front hitch operation

A new front hitch management system makes it much easier to operate front-mounted implements. Two height settings can be programmed, and the automatic float setting allows the front hitch to switch automatically to float mode as soon as the working position is reached. This is ideal when working with front mowers, for example.

The new Maxxum CVX EP series is built at the St. Valentin plant in Austria and will be available in January 2014.
