FPT Industrial Powers up for Bauma 2013

A market leader in powertrain technology, FPT Industrial will showcase its world-class range of engines for off-road applications at Bauma 2013, an exhibition of construction, building and mining equipment and vehicles, which takes place at the Munich Trade Fair Centre, Germany, on 15-21 April.

FPT Industrial’s offering in the field is wide and varied, covering engines for on-road and off-road vehicles, machinery and power generation, all the result of the Italian company’s dedication to continuous development across its six Research & Development (R&D) Centres.

Reducing Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions by more than 95%, the new High Efficiency SCR (HI-eSCR) system continues a tradition of innovation dating back to 1903 and will be on display at the show.

Developed ahead of the introduction of Euro VI and Tier 4 Final regulations in 2014, the unique technology is the latest generation of FPT Industrial’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which has been utilised in over 350,000 engines.

FPT Industrial’s NEF and Cursor Series engines, which offer flexibility for a variety of solutions and are equipped with HI-eSCR technology, will also be exhibited.

The four-cylinder N45, and six-cylinder N67 Tier 4 Final, Cursor 9 and Cursor 13 all feature the lean design and technical excellence synonymous with the manufacturer’s powerplants.

Part of FPT Industrial’s sustainability strategy and a cost-effective option for customers, its remanufacturing activities will also be highlighted. Engines and engine components receive a second life, and get reconditioned in accordance with modern standards. They are resold either as parts or combined in full, ‘as new’, engines to extend the life of vehicles and industrial equipment.

At Bauma 2013, FPT Industrial will be based in Hall 5, Stand 305/404.

FPT Industrial’s HI-eSCR for off-road applications

The latest breakthrough from FPT Industrial, HI-eSCR achieves significant reductions in NOx emissions. With a focus on maximising combustion efficiency, thereby reducing particulate matter production to meet regulations, the solution uses clean air in the engine rather than Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), before the after-treatment HI-eSCR converts NOx to diatomic nitrogen and water.

HI-eSCR has already featured in award-winning machinery from the Fiat Industrial group, with the Iveco STRALIS HI-Way claiming the prestigious ‘International Truck of the Year 2013’ Award.

Main HI-eSCR features and benefits:

  •  HI-eSCR delivers improved fuel efficiency and reliability and reduces running costs, while the compact exhaust system saves weight and space
  •  Increased combustion efficiency is achieved through higher effective cylinder pressures, peak nozzle pressures up to 2,200 bar from the latest Common Rail fuel injection systems, and crankcase and cylinder head modifications

  •  Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)

  • Patents established during development include:
  •  ‘Closed’ loop control for precise AdBlue dosing
  •  Adaptive dosing system based on NOx and ammonia sensors
  •  Thermally insulated high-turbulence mixing
  •  Enhanced exhaust gas temperature control

NEF Series engines

Setting the standard in its class, NEF engines offer high-performance, reliable, cost-effective and compact solutions to power construction vehicles and machinery and power generators.

Main NEF Series features and benefits:

  •  The 4.5-litre NEF 45 offers performance from 53 kW to 129 kW The 6.7-litre NEF 67 produces between 74 kW and 230 kW
  •  Options for both include Common Rail or rotary pump injection, naturally aspirated induction or fixed geometry turbocharging
  •  Suitable for powering a wide variety of construction and agricultural equipment machines

Cursor Series engines

Engines in the Cursor Series have been developed to deliver high specific power outputs, rapid throttle response, low fuel consumption and low running costs in heavy duty applications such as construction machinery.

Main Cursor Series features and benefits:

  •  The 8.7-litre Cursor 9 options range from 175 kW to 305 kW The Cursor 13 produces between 290 kW and 500 kW
  •  Incorporating overhead camshafts with rockers, engines use state-of-the-art electric unit injectors or heavy duty Common Rail fuel injection systems, while a range of forced induction options are available
  •  Suitable for powering a wide variety of construction and agricultural equipment machines

Power generation offering

FPT Industrial’s power generation offering includes G-drives, standard and rental gensets, covering the main applications, such as emergency services and self-generation, and special groups, plants and after sales services.

Engines powering the line-up include F32, NEF, Cursor and Vector series powerplants, ranging from 30 kVA to 800 kVA. A variety of customisation options are available, including open or closed power sets equipped with sub-frames, electrical machinery and control panels.

  •  Extremely compact layout includes easily accessible maintenance points and dust and water-proof doors
  •  Lower running costs in continuous operating power
  •  Best in class oil intervals, up to 600 hours

With environmental initiatives a priority for FPT Industrial, the genset offering adheres to emission regulations without compromising its outstanding performance.

Remanufacturing

Engine components receive a second life through FPT Industrial’s remanufacturing plant at Garchizy in France. Used engines from authorised dealers are dismantled and each part cleaned and inspected, with components reconditioned using current calibration methods and tolerances. Raw materials from parts not suitable for remanufacturing are recycled.

Pieces return to work as spare parts, or within a completely remanufactured engine. For easy installation and minimised downtime, the ‘as new’ powerplants can be built to original dimensions and fittings, but feature the latest, state-of-the-art technology.

Main remanufacturing features and benefits:

  •  Extends the life of vehicles and industrial equipment by replacing a used engine with a matching unit, rebuilt incorporating up-to-date developments
  •  Remanufactured engines are typically 10-25% cheaper than a new unit
  •  A wide range of spare parts are also available
  •  All remanufactured components and engines are backed by a 12-month warranty and offer an identical life expectancy to new items, following thorough quality inspection
  •  Remanufacturing is undertaken in accordance with ISO 9001/2000 and ISO 14001 standards
