FPT Industrial displays latest Powertrain solutions at Eurosatory

Powertrain innovator FPT Industrial will display its latest offering for the defence industry at Eurosatory, the world’s largest international land and air-land defence and security exhibition, held at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center in France on 16-20 June 2014.

A market leader in the production of powertrains and turnkey power solutions for land, air and water based defence and security applications, FPT Industrial, with its Cursor 13 engine, powers Iveco Defence Vehicles’ Trakker. Providing up to 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,300 Nm at 1,000 rpm, the Cursor 13 enables the Iveco Trakker to deliver high power, rapid load response and maximum reliability.

The vehicle uses regular diesel and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), commonly known as ADBlue, and adheres to the latest Euro VI emission regulations during normal operations due to FPT Industrial’s patented High Efficiency Selective Catalytic Reduction (HI-eSCR) system, which reduces Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) levels by more than 95%. Additional benefits of HI-eSCR include a reduction in weight, optimised fuel consumption and increased durability thanks to a less complex, yet highly efficient, after-treatment system that avoids use of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

However, in extreme conditions and military operations the FPT Industrial engine adopts a specific dataset that allows the use of alternative fuels, with ADBlue no longer required. This, along with conveniently located oil dipstick checker and oil filler, ensures a reliable, robust, cost-effective and easily maintainable solution.

The Cursor 13 utilises established technology, with the engine having proven itself with a top-four finish in the gruelling Dakar 2014 race in South America, which covers 10,000 km across some of the world’s harshest terrain, including the Atacama Desert. Additionally, five leading NATO countries already operate the vehicle.

FPT Industrial’s vast offering for the defence and security industry is further illustrated through its brand 2H Energy, which specialises in the design, manufacture and distribution of turnkey energy solutions. As well as portable, integrated, soundproof, on-trailer and in-container generating units of up to 5,000 kW, it provides energy distribution solutions for outside deployment and electrical distribution panels for varied applications, including nuclear submarines. The company also provides emergency back-up generators for hospitals and energy supplier EDF in France.

The brand will display its GE 15 kW on trailer genset, which has been developed following 2H Energy’s six decades of experience in supplying solutions for military applications. Operating in temperatures from -33°C up to 50°C, altitudes of up to 1,000 metres and at a humidity levels of 95% without derating, the GE 15 kW 50Hz is available in 230V and 400V variants.

FPT Industrial’s offering also incorporates water-based defence, with its six-cylinder, 8.7-litre C90 650 military marine engine on show. Producing a maximum power output of 650 hp at 2,530 rpm and an impressive 2,152 Nm of torque at 1,700 rpm, the C90 650 achieves the highest specific power and torque in its class, and is ideal for high speed patrol boats.

The engine features second generation electronically controlled Common Rail fuel injection and innovative air supply management to achieve high density and very high torque at low speeds. The state-of-the-art technology delivers outstanding performance while its compact layout and overall weight of just 940 kg provides space and weight savings.

FPT Industrial and 2H Energy’s presence at Eurosatory will be co-located with Iveco Defence Vehicles on Stand D501.
