Case IH presents the first Puma™ CVT Series Tractors in Russia

Release Date: 23 May 2018
Case IH Puma 225 CVT
The best-in-class tractor from Case IH, Puma 225 CVT, made its debut in the country and was presented by Case IH authorised dealer Altair at the agro-exhibition Golden Niva 2018.

The Case IH CVT – Continuously Variable Transmission – delivers new levels of productivity, performance and convenience, providing smooth, stepless and efficient power for any application.

Red color and Case IH technologies always attract attention. This year, at the Golden Niva exhibition 2018, Case IH presented the Axial-Flow® 8240 combine harvester, the legendary Steiger® Quadtrac™ 500 tractor, the Patriot® 4430 self-propelled sprayer, the Magnum Rowtrac™ 340 tractor, and the smallest tractor Quantum 95F, but the machine attracting the most interest was the Puma 225 tractor, which intrigued the farmers with its CVT transmission.

The Puma Series joined Case IH family in 2006 as the smallest full-frame designed tractors for cultivating crops. They filled a niche between the Maxxum® Series and the Magnum™ Series tractors. A multi-purpose tractor with just the right amount of power for both row-crop and livestock applications, Puma proved itself perfectly in all the conditions of Russia’s farm fields.

New CVT technology has been introduced as an alternative to the standard Powershift on high horsepower tractors, as Russian operators continue to demand more from their equipment. It allows the operator to change seamlessly through a continuous range of effective gear ratios in conjunction with the speed and engine rpm. Based solely on the mechanical interconnection of the gears and the additional hydraulic motor, the Case IH CVT transmission is designed to operate with the utmost fuel efficiency, combining a simple design with reliability and efficiency.

Leading CVT technology on Puma Series tractors delivers new levels of productivity

Case IH launched its first CVT tractor in 1999 featuring the industry leading Auto Productivity Management (APM). This feature managing automatically the engine and the transmission revolutionised the way to drive a tractor. The development of the Puma CVT has taken place over the last 10 years with the input of Case IH dealers and over five hundred farmers and contractors worldwide, who have helped Case IH to define the key features of the Puma CVT.

The result is a second-generation CVT tractor that benefits from proven components and has been upgraded with the latest technology to achieve best in class productivity, efficiency and driving comfort.

Case IH Puma CVT tractors, featuring the latest FPT engine technology (225 hp), excel at handling tasks that require varying speeds and loads and makes operation exceptionally easy: the operator just needs to set the speed with the travel pedal or the Multicontroller lever and the APM will look after everything else. In addition, it features the simplest drive lever in the industry, which puts all the controls at the operator's fingertips, intuitively positioned on the armrest for greater comfort and productivity. All the hitches, PTO and remote valves are controlled from the armrest.

Puma tractors are also equipped with a multiple-disc wet clutch. A switching between four ranges of two clutch packs of couplings is performed most effectively. Unlike the Powershift transmission, the switching between mechanical ranges occurs at a time when the shaft speed equals the coupling speed, so in fact, the clutch is not used at the moment of switching, which reduces the wear rate of the clutch almost to zero. When stopping or starting, even on slopes, there is also no need to use the clutch pedal. The Case IH Puma 225 CVT will automatically be kept from rolling away when working on slopes. This further reduces wear on the clutch and brake discs providing an optimal balance between the hydraulic and mechanical parts of the drive for any type of work.
