  • Following last year’s 50th anniversary celebratory event, New Holland Agriculture gives back to the community which has been its home for so many years

On Tuesday 24th February, New Holland Agriculture handed over the new ‘Exploratorium’ garden to the Pioneer School based in Basildon. Having moved to the new purpose built premises in 2009, the Pioneer School is a special academy designated for children aged 3 – 19 who have severe and complex learning difficulties.

At the press conference to celebrate 50 years of tractor production held on 15th May 2014 at its Basildon plant, New Holland expressed its desire to give back to a community that had supported the brand for many years. Mr. Steve Horsted, Head Teacher of Pioneer School was invited on stage, where New Holland Business Director UK and ROI Andrew Watson and Brand President Carlo Lambro, presented him with a commemorative plaque as a symbol of the commitment they were making to the school for the creation of the playground.

During the past 10 months, the brand has worked with the School to create the ‘Exploratorium’ garden, an activity area where the children are able to discover nature and enjoy it in a safe environment. It is being called “Exploratorium – Giving children the experience of Nature”. It includes tractor-themed equipment for the children to play on, such as a tractor shaped frames and tunnels made with tyres, together with carefully selected plants and trees which can enhance their sense of touch or smell.

On the opening day, Edmund Kerley, HR Director for CNH Industrial UK&ROI, Africa and the Middle East and Michael Beavis, Health & Safety Manager for CNH Industrial in the UK, together with a group of representatives of all parties involved in the project, met with Mr. Horsted and together visited the brand new playground, opening it for the first time to a selected group of kids, who warmly welcomed the new facility.

Mr. Horsted thanked New Holland again for the accomplishment and acknowledged the great team effort, commitment and dedication of all of those who were involved in the project, from the school team to the Basildon plant team. His thanks were echoed by Mr. Kerley who also commended the many Basildon plant partners who enthusiastically contributed to the project.

New Holland’s plant has been an integral part of the Basildon community and in its 50 years of operation has regularly contributed to local charities and participated in local events and educational initiatives.
