Steiger continues to impress with transmission options and recent updates for improved efficiency

Release Date: 04 Dec 2019
Steiger 600: Whatever your needs, there’s a Case IH Steiger suited to your business.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) was announced for the Case IH Steiger® in 2017, making it the world’s first articulated tractor to offer the technology and creating a buzz through the agricultural industry. Two years on and the Steiger CVT remains a popular choice, but while it may be the answer for many operations, it’s not the only option when it comes to maximising efficiency and results.

The Case IH Steiger offers the “best of both worlds” in terms of transmission options, says Case IH High Horsepower Product Manager Alyx Selsmeyer, and knowing just what you want to do with the tractor is key to making the right choice for your business.

“Steiger tractors provide solutions designed to address a wide range of producer challenges, with the Steiger PowerDrive Powershift and the CVTDrive transmissions each offering unique application advantages,” Alyx said.

“The CVTDrive transmission featuring variable speed control provides for effortless power transfer at any speed, while the PowerDrive unleashes the raw power that many farming operations rely on.”

In practical terms, Alyx said the Steiger CVTDrive transmission allowed for full power and hydraulic flow at low ground speeds for special applications and implements. The harvesting of crops like vegetables benefits from the ‘creeper’ speeds accommodated by CVT, and there’s also advantages for less experienced operators in terms of the simplicity of the CVTDrive technology.

The Steiger PowerDrive powershift transmission remains an industry leader in terms of pure mechanical power, making it ideal for tillage and continuous high draft loads. Another feature is the APM (Automatic Productivity Management) on the PowerDrive powershift tractors that balances the gear and engine to achieve peak performance with optimal fuel efficiency.

“There’s obviously a lot to consider and that’s where our experienced Case IH dealers can provide some advice around the best tractor for your needs. Both transmissions are designed to perform in any application, depending on a customer’s operational requirements. Your local dealer can help you review the anticipated applications and desired performance, before making a recommendation on the most appropriate transmission,” Alyx said.

For those in the market for a new Steiger, Alyx said there were some important updates to model year 2019 and 2020 Steiger tractors.

For both 2019 and 2020 models, structural and design enhancements include:

- Engine and transmission upgrades for improved performance and ease of maintenance;
- Low Sidewall tyre technology that allows larger single tyre options than previously available with increased performance over conventional tyres;
- Upgrades to the undercarriage system for improved durability;
- New air intake system to improve filter restriction in extreme dust conditions, and changes to lighting design;
- Increase in fuel tank capacity for, and upgrades to the roller wheels of, the Rowtrac; and
- Improved connectivity with the addition of the new telematics.

Sixty years of innovation has gone into the Case IH Steiger, and today it’s a recognised leader in the areas of track technology and fuel efficiency, to name a few. Its name is synonymous with productivity, profitability, reliability and durability, and we know how important it is to maintain those high standards with regular improvements and updates based on industry and customer feedback, and technology advancements,” Alyx said.

“Case IH has a Steiger that’s suited to any operation and it’s just a matter of having a clear idea of the role it will play and then seeking the expert advice of our dealers who can help determine the most suitable one for your needs.”
