There’s nothing like real-world testing to properly gauge a new product or convention. It’s a philosophy followed by New Zealand Fire Services (NZFS), who is placing a state-of-the-art IVECO Magirus appliance on a two-year trial, the results of which could determine how the body procures its fleet in the future.

Attendees at New Zealand’s upcoming ‘T.H.E EXPO’ can see the vehicle first hand at the IVECO stand and learn why Magirus is one of Europe’s leading fire equipment brands, and increasingly growing in popularity in New Zealand and Australia.

Based on the Eurocargo ML 140 4x2, the Magirus is equipped with a HLF10 Tank Pumper Super Structure with TEAM CAB. Magirus is a sister brand of Iveco and a dedicated manufacturer of firefighting appliance.

This state-of-the-art truck is equipped with a 2,000l/m pump, 2,000lt water tank, 100lt foam tank, quick attack hose reel, electronic ladder lowering system and stowage areas.

Magirus firefighting bodies also feature the ‘AluFire 3’ superstructure system.

Proven in the field and now in its third generation, AluFire 3 uses anodised aluminium construction, is highly resistant to the elements and is stable and extremely long-lasting while remaining light weight.

The Magirus TEAM CAB is widely regarded as industry-leading and extremely popular in Europe; it provides the next level in comfort and ergonomics for the driver plus crew of five – four of the seats also feature breathing apparatus in the driving direction.

Entry and egress into the cabin is easy via automatic boarding steps and 90° opening doors and the interior is L.E.D lit and offers innovative stowage solutions for equipment.

The IVECO ML140 cab chassis on which it’s based, features a powerful yet efficient 5.9 litre engine producing 251hp (185kW) and 850Nm of torque and is coupled to an Allison 5-speed full automatic transmission for smooth and seamless power delivery.

Six New Zealand fire stations will be putting the IVECO Magirus through a range of operational and performance tests, using the vehicle for around three months each before reporting back on their findings.

IVECO representatives from both New Zealand and Australia were involved in delivering the vehicle, and are excited at the prospect of further infiltrating emergency service fleets in both countries.

IVECO New Zealand Product, Marketing and Network Development Manager, Kristi Walker, says IVECO can offer prospective buyers in Australia and New Zealand, a customised and streamlined experience in specifying and building a firefighting appliance.

“IVECO’s close association and relationship with Magirus, provides customers with a turn-key solution to their appliance requirements – this leads to a more efficient build process which sees the end user dealing just with one entity, being IVECO, for all aspects of the build,” Mrs Walker said.

“The brand is bringing its latest European firefighting expertise and innovation to the New Zealand and Australian markets, and feedback from the early adopters has already been extremely positive.”
