IVECO and Carrier Transicold introduce the brand new and unique 26 tonner 400hp Stralis NP rigid equipped for the first time with Carrier Transicold’s Supra® CNG technology on IVECO’s Diesel-free/Low Emissions Area stand at the 2018 edition of the IAA Commercial Vehicles (IAA) show.

This groundbreaking solution is a 100% Natural Gas, 0 % Diesel, 100% Simple truck with refrigerated body. Contrary to standard trucks for temperature-controlled goods transport, which have two diesel engines – one to power the truck and one to run the cooling group compressor which is far less regulated – this Stralis NP only uses Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Both the vehicle and the cooling group run on Stoichiometric natural gas engines equipped with 3-way catalysts. This results in ultra-low NO2 (-90% compared to diesel) and Particulate Matter (-99%) emissions that are well below regulations limits. For CO2 emissions, the reduction is as much as 95% with biomethane.

This solution, which is UN ECE R110 certified, also has the advantage of much quieter operation, with the Stralis NP’ being Piek Quiet Truck certified 71 dB(A) while the Supra CNG cooling group has a Piek certification (noise emissions below 60 dB(A).

The low emissions and noise levels are key advantages for night-time deliveries in city-centre supermarkets. A further significant advantage is the low Total Cost of Operation, with up to 40% fuel cost savings compared to a diesel equivalent. The Stralis NP featuring Carrier Supra CNG technology delivers 100% diesel-free low emissions refrigerated transport.
Refuelling is simple, with a single easily accessible fueling point, and with autonomy of up to 1000 km, the vehicle on needs refilling every 2 to 3 driver shifts when used in urban delivery missions.

The fuel supply for Carrier Transicold’s engine comes from dedicated serial chassis-mounted CNG tanks installed in our plant. The autonomous operation of the cooling group means the truck’s engine doesn’t have to be running in order to generate energy for the refrigerated unit.

Indeed, the Supra CNG refrigeration unit is able to open its dedicated CNG tanks - from 1 to 4 to suit all mission profiles - whenever cold production is necessary.
