Iveco at Expo 2015: Industrial excellence for mobility and sustainable logistics
Friday May 8th marked the handover ceremony of Iveco and Iveco Bus vehicles, which will be used for the universal event, Expo Milano 2015.
Focus on sustainable mobility and alternative drive vehicles, confirming the European leadership of CNH Industrial’s two brands in natural gas and biomethane technologies.
Iveco and Iveco Bus, brands of CNH Industrial, have officially been given their green light to the being the Expo 2015 adventure with the handover of vehicles which will be used throughout the universal event, held in Milan from May 1 to October 31 2015. Throughout the six months of the event, Iveco and Iveco Bus vehicles will have the opportunity to demonstrate their performance, reliability and, most importantly, their respect for the environment, confirming both brands’ commitment to increasingly sustainable mobility and logistics.
The vehicle handover ceremony took place on Friday May 8th outside the Universal Expo centre and was attended by Pierre Lahutte, Iveco Brand President, Giuseppe Tomarchio, Director General of the City of Milan, and Piero Galli, Director General of Expo 2015.
During the ceremony, Pierre Lahutte stated: “We are incredibly proud to be here today with our range of vehicles: for us, Expo 2015 represents a unique opportunity to communicate the value of our vehicles through their practical work as part of this great universal event. The theme of Expo 2015 – 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life' – is in line with the messages of sustainability and respect for the environment which Iveco and Iveco Bus have always promoted as European leaders in the natural gas-powered vehicle sector”.
Iveco has supplied AMSA (Milan Environmental Services Company) – which manages the entire waste cycle, street cleaning and other essential environment and city maintenance services – with a total of 55 vehicles in its Daily, Eurocargo and Stralis ranges; these will be used for a variety of tasks, including street cleaning in the Milan city centre, waste collection services in areas around the Expo site and wet waste collection services.
Iveco and Iveco Bus leading sustainable mobility at Expo 2015
To demonstrate their continued commitment to sustainable mobility, Iveco and Iveco Bus will be leading the way at Expo with 20 vehicles powered by CNG. Natural gas propulsion is the most efficient and immediately available alternative drive technology for resolving the issues of pollution and reducing CO2 emissions. Natural gas is currently the only real alternative to diesel oil and it is the cleanest fuel available today.
This is why Iveco Bus is the appointed supplier to ARRIVA ITALIA, the people mobility partner of Expo. The CNH Industrial brand has supplied seven Urbanway city buses, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) to provide services within the site. These vehicles are serving as the exclusive shuttles throughout the six-month event.
Lahutte added: “These vehicles, which are already very green because they drive on CNG, can now also be powered by biomethane, a renewable fuel produced from the biodigestion of biomass, agricultural waste, and the organic fraction of waste. For Iveco and Iveco Bus, biomethane represents the most efficient technological challenge in reducing CO2 emissions for compliance with the targets set by the European Union”.
Biomethane is now a focal theme at Expo 2015 thanks to the presence of New Holland Agriculture with its “Sustainable Farm Pavilion”. The pavilion is inspired by its Clean Energy Leader strategy and, in particular, its Energy Independent Farm project, which aims to reduce farmers’ dependency on fossil fuels and to incentivise the cultivation of bioenergy, such as biomethane. To symbolise the importance of biomethane in agriculture, the new T6 Methane Power tractor – displayed on the pavilion’s sloping rooftop to welcome visitors – is equipped with the same engine range as the methane-powered vehicles provided to Expo by Iveco and Iveco Bus.
Pierre Lahutte concluded: “Iveco and Iveco Bus along with New Holland Agriculture are leading the way in industrial excellence and, through Expo 2015, this prestigious international showcase, they are demonstrating how using natural gas and biomethane can create a virtuous cycle across agriculture, food and energy production and transport, making it possible to reduce food, water and energy waste on a global scale”.
