This technology donation, made by the capital goods company, retails at more than $50,000 and will help students in Brighton Park schools succeed and become stronger in STEM education.

CNH Industrial, in coordination with United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, donated more than 150 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 - 16GB tablets to Chicago Public Schools in the Brighton Park neighborhood. These tablets are part of the effort to provide a better quality of education for area students and give them the resources needed to succeed and become stronger in the “STEM” academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The donation was announced this morning during an event with CNH Industrial, United Way, and the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council at Burroughs Elementary School, one of the four Chicago Public Schools in Brighton Park that received the tablets. Brighton Park is the second fastest growing community in the city of Chicago and has had a 235% increase of the number of children living in poverty from 1990-2005. Patrick Brosnan, Executive Director of the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council, joined CNH Industrial in delivering to the other area schools that received tablets.

The donation of these tablets, totaling more than $50,000, will help the schools, such as Burroughs Elementary School, to integrate technology into lesson plans, conduct in-depth research and expand programs in the classroom. The tablets give children in Brighton Park schools the resources they need to succeed in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“CNH Industrial recognizes the importance of educating our youth and preparing them for the future—especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” said Ann Daane, CNH Industrial Vice President of Human Resources for North America. “This donation is one of many that our company has made to United Way over the past 30 years because we support their efforts of “Advancing the Common Good” and working to improve the lives of people in the Chicago area.”

United Way launched a 10-year initiative to ensure children ages 0-5 enter kindergarten ready to learn and middle school students transition into 9th grade prepared to succeed in high school. With only 60% of Chicago Public Schools students graduating from high school, now, more than ever, there is an urgent need to help area students. United Way works across its 1,276 state and local United Ways to provide meaningful programming for middle school students that ensure they are on track for success when they enter high school.

As part of this initiative, United Way launched a LIVE UNITED Neighborhood Network in Brighton Park. The Neighborhood Network is working with lead partner, Brighton Park Neighborhood Council, to convene a coalition of partners such as local schools, non-profit agencies, parents, legislators and businesses to address community issues.

“The ongoing support from CNH Industrial allows United Way to make impactful changes that serve our communities across our region,” said Wendy DuBoe, President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. “Not only do they support United Way by investing their time and dollars; they also directly invest in the education of children in the Chicagoland area though donations such as this. We are proud to work with CNH Industrial as both a funder and community partner.”

CNH Industrial employees have a proud history of giving to the United Way, having partnered with the organization for more than 30 years. In 2013, employees in the United States and Canada donated more than $850,000 to United Way in addition to the almost $800,000 the company contributed bringing the grand total raised to $1.6 million.

United Way of Metropolitan Chicago is part of a network of nearly 1,800 community-based United Ways in 45 countries and territories. Locally, the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago (UWMC) support system includes North-Northwest United Way, United Way of DuPage/West Cook and South-Southwest Suburban United Way. UWMC serves as the backbone organization generating, convening and coordinating resources across funders, service providers, government and civic leaders to delivery large-scale, measurable and sustainable impact across our region. Additional information is available here
