A long term partnership between the construction machinery manufacturer and CNH Industrial’s powertrain business will see the ongoing supply of a tailor-made version of the FPT Industrial NEF series N45 engine.

FPT Industrial, the global powertrain business of CNH Industrial (NYSE: CNHI /MI: CNHI), has signed a long term partnership with Liebherr Machines Bulle SA to supply tailor-made engines for its construction machinery portfolio. FPT Industrial was chosen for both its high performing products and its ability to provide Liebherr Machines Bulle with customized solutions.

The engine supply concerns the Tier 4 final / Stage IV compliant version of the NEF series N45 engines equipped with HI-eSCR. This specifically designed version of the N45 is a 4.5-liter, four-cylinder in-line engine providing 130 kilowatts of power. It features state-of-the-art technologies, such as the latest generation Common Rail injection system, and is characterized by high power and high torque, especially at low revolutions per minute, ideal for increasing productivity in construction applications.

To ensure compliance with Tier 4 final / Stage IV emissions levels, the engine adopts FPT Industrial’s patented High Efficiency SCR (HI-eSCR) system, which reduces Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions by more than 95% through the use of SCR only; with no need for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) or a diesel particulate filter (DPF). For countries requiring the adoption of filters, a DPF can be added to the HI-eSCR system, which makes the solution Stage V ready.

Based on the requirements provided by Liebherr and FPT Industrial’s experience and know-how, the technical features make the specifically-developed engine stand out for its efficiency, robustness and quality, allowing it to achieve high performance in terms of load response, maximum torque and power. Meanwhile, the engine also delivers low fuel consumption and long maintenance intervals to ensure low operating costs.

Founded in 1949, Liebherr is one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction machinery and market leader in many other industries such as mining, high-performance cranes, concrete technology, machine tools and automation systems, aerospace and transportation systems, domestic appliances and hotels.
